tree63

last friday, a few of us headed down to SJ for the tree63 (no, it's not tree6tree, which i originally thought.:P) concert. the turn out was small and we got to enjoy the band up close. tree63 is a 3 person band from s. africa. the lead singer, john ellis, has a really high pitched voice. i was amazed at how high he could go! his voice was awesome. it wasn't the usual raspy deep voice i like. :P of course, blessed be your name was played but unfortunately not as good on the cd. my favorite song was i stand for you (the lyrics below). the concert was very moving. a few of the songs were also mixed w/ good ol' hymns (i love you lord, amazing grace).

afterwards, lori bought their cd, got it signed, and a picture with lead singer, john ellis wearing her very "cattY" hat! meeeOw! :)

I Stand For You
Jesus, I stand for you
No matter what you lead me through
They will chase me out
And close me down
But Jesus, I’ll stand for you

Chorus:
I'll always stand - I'll always stand
I'll always stand for you...

Jesus, I’ve stood my ground
When unbelief was all around
I have felt the sting
Rejection brings
But Jesus, I’ll still stand for you

I'll always stand...

A time will come
When everyone
Will turn their eyes
On the Risen Son
But until that day, this world will turn away
And so I take your hand - I’ll always stand for you

Guilty of disgrace
But you took my place
So Jesus, I’ll always stand for you

I'll always stand...

"one taiwan, one china"

mother chants...
the parentals went to "protest" at google yesterday. they were trying to drag me to come along. i told them someone needed to be at home to bail them out. hah! apparently google put taiwan under china in their search function. google changed it before the protest. thank goodness i didn't have to bail anyone out. :P they also made the chinese news. i got to see my ma in action.

20.

alrite, i'm joining the bandwagon. here are my 20 random facts:

1. i have a brother that's 9 years older and a sister that's 7 years older. that basically makes me an only child and a dumpster baby.

2. my oldest friend is cindy lin in nyc. we've known each other for my whole life existence.

3. i was born in the hospital right next to my freshman dorm at U of MN. go gophs! what?

4. all through my short life existence, i have been shuffled between MN and CA. born in MN, moved to CA in 1st grade, moved back to MN after 6th grace, moved back to CA after college. i like where i am now and will hopefully be destined to stay in CA.

5. i don't like eating raw bananas but love banana dessert/dishes. artificial banana flavor is awesome, especially in laffy taffy, runts, mochi, and grass jelly

6. since elementary school, i always wanted to be a stationery designer. i guess i never ventured far from what i wanted to do.

7. i started working at age 15. my first job was a coat checker at a health club. other odd jobs i've had: retail sales, custom framer, art studio attendant (made clay), staff lab attendant, corn field worker.

8. i was an overachiever up till the point i became an underachiver in college, freshman year. i was put on probation at the end of the year. ha ha!

9. i applied to only 2 colleges: U of MN and Santa Clara University. got in both and forgoed the 30k year tuition. i think my parents owe me 80k+. :P

10. the reasons for #8 and #9 is that i wanted to major in business something. i was accepted in one of the best business schools in the midwest. look how that worked out for me...

11. when i was 10 in taiwan, i was playing at this waterfall place. for some odd reason, i wanted to step on the flat rocks the waterfalls were going down. of course, i slipped on the rocks and luckily held onto the edge of the rocks. i think someone was watching over me while i pulled myself up. i looked around and no one even noticed. i can still remember that moment quite vividly.

12. tennis was my life up until college. the best ranking i had was #16 in girl's 18 & under in the northwestern tennis association and #1 singles in h.s. some small colleges even asked me to play for them. i refused to play tennis in college and even now. i don't know if i truly enjoyed the game. some day, i'll hopefully change my mind about tennis.

13 is my "lucky" number. i lived on the 13th floor in college. ever since, #13 has shown up a lot in my life.

14. my most favorite place to be in? my bed. :P a close 2nd would be anywhere else in the world where there's a comfortable bed.

15. i enjoy baking more than cooking. i think i'd enjoy cooking if it wasn't for all that chopping. i'm more of the throw everything in, stir, and bake because i'm lazy.

16. i'm peculiar about the quality of things: consumer products, ppls...

17. i'd rather clean my own bathroom than have someone do it for me.

18. chores:
-i don't enjoy washing dishes or folding clothes.
-i like to vacuum if stuff is cleared from the floor.

19. pet peeves:
-ppls who don't remember things i tell them 2 days ago.
-when i'm eating and I can hear the other person smacking their lips, chewing.
-when ppls don't tell me things straight. then i have to interpret them, usually incorrectly.

20. i'd rather watch ppls enjoy the dessert i make than eat it myself.

done.

i did it!

which one looks better? ;P

i did it! i finally replicated the queso con espinaca paquetito aka. cheese and spinach packets from sevilla! i made it with better cheeses: dill and basil gouda mixed with feta. also with gorgonzola with feta to bring the stinky taste down.

i also made...

wrapped salmon with aioli garlic mustard.

phyllo dough is phun but hard to work with. it was for a good cause, my ma's b-day dinnah!

alright, here's something nicer to look at...

Real (Palace) Alcazar, Sevilla, Spain

R.I.P.

i needed to mail a bday card and i asked my dad if the mail came yet. my dad said no. so i ran out of the house. i jumped quickly and saw this:

on our sidewalk, a lovely DEAD MOUSE. i ran inside to tell my dad. he said, i know. i didn't have time to throw it away.
---
i'm thinking gee, thanks dad, you could at least tell me there was a dead mouse before i went out. after being grossed out for a few moments, i went back to inspect it. it looked fresh and the eyeball was all shiny. a present from the dumb black and white cat that sleeps on our roof ABOVE my room? for some reason my pancakes i just ate aren't settling right...

---
a closer pic requested by arex. you can thank him for this one:
hm, the ears look bigger on this mouse. is that normal?

story time

there was a girl named holland who was almost one. she would pinch, bite, and eat bugs when her mommy wasn't looking. her innocent demeanor became borderline terror. one day, it was her grandma's birthday. there was a magnificent cake which was lovingly made and decorated by her sister, brother, and mommy. no matter where the cake was on the table, holland followed.

alas, holland received her piece of cake. surprisingly, she was quite civil trying to eat it with a fork. until...
(a-yi drea looked away for a moment)

everyone found holland stuffing her face. there goes the magnificent cake all over the floor, table, face, and hair.

the end.
