creme brulee? chocolate souffle? wee, wee!
i attempted these two desserts this past saturday. surprisingly, they turned out ok with all the mishaps. :P don't ask me why i choose to make the two "hardest" desserts. i guess it was the cries of "help me get rid of all this chocolate!","let's try my new torch!", and inspiration from watching QE (1 straight guy and 5...).
here are some
baking tips:
creme brulee
1. make sure you have butane gas for the TORCH. a good substitute is to put the dish really close to the broiler at HI heat. make sure you watch the sugar!
2. have someone else separate the egg whites for you. thanks susan! :)
3. use real vanilla bean. 1lb = $380!! yup, i spent $4 on one little bean string but well worth it!
chocolate souffle
1. watch the chocolate VERY closely! i think we over cooked the chocolate and when we added the yolk and um....
2. add sugar AFTER you whip the egg whites. my bad!
3. don't under/over cook the souffle. it will still be liquidy if you under cook. :P
all in all, the creme brulee turned out really well sans the torch. the chocolate souffle, at first, was a disaster. BUT it
POOFED! yay! that's what really counts.
both desserts turned pretty well-but what do i know? i've never ate them before. unlike
some others on their romantic dates. ;P
i think i am on a
baking craze...i just bought a springfoam pan set. 3 layer cake anyone? :P too bad i can't really bake at home. hm...i should start a
personal baking service! anyone want to hire me? heh heh!
