tw-nese
last saturday i decided to go hiking w/ my mom and her taiwanese hiking group she joins once in a while. apparently this group has met up for the past 20+ years at foothill park! crazy, huh? this was my second time joining them. i was the only "young-un" and was yet again, asked if i was in high school. i can't count how many times i've been asked that this year! grr..it's a blessing and a curse but will probably be more of a blessing in 5-10 years (if my whole head of hair doesn't go white). ok, sorry i digress, back to the story...i was really surprised at how friendly everyone was, especially when they all came to greet me. it must be that tw-nese friendliness thing. it got me thinking, when did i ever have this feeling of feeling really welcomed...to feel so part of a group of that was even a different generation from me. why can't we greet people with such openness and being so friendly daily, at work, or even at church? is it the tw culture or generation?
i really enjoyed the time i had even if most people broke-up into different pace groups. i was with the first pack to head-up the trail but didn't really converse anyone because i was the only female "young-un" and am not able to speak taiwanese. i was very surprised to see a three-year old complete the trail with his grandparents! how cute!
anyone want to join me next time at 8am? :P

Yes, I wonder the same thing too. Friendliness is something I don't see as much in California. I didn't realize that until I moved away from California and then move back.
