half dome, waterfalls, and big rocks everywhere!
finally, the yosemite trip arrived and went. it has been one week since we went! can you believe it? the goal was to hike the half dome trail and conquer. unfortunately i must conquer it another time b/c snow, steepness, and carrying too much played a big factor. as i was huffing and puffing on the 16 mile trail i kept wondering, why am i so out of shape? i thought that i would perform better. i came to the conclusion at lunch that i carried WAY too much! i had two full bags of trail mix that were weighing me down. after giving it gratefully to jw, i felt a big difference. ah ha! so it wasn't just me! well, i wouldn't of gone all the way up half dome anyways. i learned a lesson...never look down when you are on that trail. just keep going up! i got a lil antsy when i was climbing up the steps and looking down. i kept thinking, how am i ever going to get down? i had a scare when my feet slipped on the stairs twice. that was not something i want to experience again. good thing there were some chivalrous guys around to help out. :) that helped me from ah hem, freaking out (a weakness i do not desire). at the end there was some good ol' fashioned butt slidin' going on. i wish i got pics. i was the trail blazer that started to erase all the foot holds with my rear end. ;P it was well worth the wet pants but little did i know later on...i would be drenched again!
waterfalls were gushing with water. i heard that in the summer that it decreases to a trickle. ah, what a great time to be in yosemite in may. the last leg of the hike was pure torture for our lil grp. our knees were protesting the whole way down the mist trail (aka. the flood trail). not that i am complaining...i am glad that i got to experience it. um, next time i am definitely going UP the mist trail!
i shall CONQUER half dome! (hopefully this year)
best quote of the trip by e: "i see rocks, i see big rocks!" yes e, big rocks are everywhere, it's yosemite. ;)
randomness...
